This year our golf team had a very successful season. They did very well at the Region 1 AA tournament at Crooked Oak Golf Club in Miller County. The boys team came in second place. Alex Thompson won Low Medalist at region, shooting a 74. Carrilee Hiers shot a 72 and won Low Medalist for the girls division at region. They went to state competition in Alpharetta on May 3. It was rained out, so the boys stayed and played the next day; Hiers went home and returned the next week. They are really looking forward to next year’s season.

The 2010 Lady Trojan soccer team played the Pierce County Lady Bears in the first round of state playoffs. The team played hard and gave it their all. The Lady Trojans scored the first goal on the Lady Bears in the first half. They were able to stick together as a team throughout the second half but lost with a score of 3-1. The team was disappointed, but looks forward to a fresh start next year.
Their season ended with six wins and two tied games. Lady Trojans were second in the region and are determined to take the No. 1 spot next year. The Lady Trojans will be without the leadership of graduating seniors Hannah Hodum and Leodefig Castanon, but will have a strong team.

The Brooks County Trojans started out the season on top of the game with an undefeated record, but that all came to an end later in the season. The Trojans lost their first game of the season to the Coffee County Trojans. The loss against Coffee was the start of the losing streak they are now suffering from.
The Trojans now have a record of 10-8 overall and 3-6 region. As the season winds down for the Trojans, they have time to gain more victories. The Trojans have been in close, hard-fought games and have struggled to come out on top. They have been facing hard times, keeping them under teams they have on their radar. The season must continue on and with only two seniors on the team, they must prepare to have a better season next year. With the last few games left in the regular season, the Trojans must be able to fight hard to bring themselves back into their game.

Brooks County’s women’s soccer team worked hard and made it to the playoffs. They are second in their region, with wins against Albany and Echols County locking in their position. The Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Indians 7-0 and Lady Wildcats 1-0 in overtime.
Coach Mandy Adams and the team are hoping to make it to the second round. The Lady Trojans attend the playoffs on April 30, 2010. Until then, the girls will continue to practice hard and dedicate their time to becoming better players. Upcoming games are April 16 against Valdosta and April 17 against Atkinson County. Lady Trojans soccer team is in it to win it!
The men’s team has had a few wins and a few losses, but unfortunately did not make it to playoffs. Next season, the Trojans want to take it all the way and hopefully become region champs. Good Luck to both teams.

The Brooks County boys track team had an excellent start. They have broken records with their outstanding sprinters. The sprinters aimed to break the state records from last year and accomplished this goal. The boys team is steadily striving to keep their first-place position in region. The girls track team is pretty good. The team might be filled with the newcomers, but they are still keeping their reputation of being No. 1 at every track meet. The girls are ready to compete for competitions.
Both track teams failed to impress at Lowndes County with lack of focus, but they would have more focus for the region meet to finish in first overall. Good luck to both teams, and this year has been successful although there have not been many competitions to compete in.

We have had a very good season despite how young our team is. Our girls team consists of one girl that has been playing very well; she has gotten low medalist in all of our school matches. We have two players that have a scoring average below forty; Alex Thompson’s average is 38 and Carrilee Hiers’ average is 39. Region is being held in Miller County at Crooked Oak Golf Course on April 19. Carrilee is looking forward to region, hoping to win her second consecutive time and continue to state as the No. 7-ranked player in the state. The boys team will be attending region with the same five players that we started the season with, and they are expecting to win. They would also like to have a boys low medalist.
State will be held in Alpharetta on May 3, and we are hoping to be there with all six of our players.

The Brooks County Trojans have had a great start in their baseball season with an overall record of 6-0. In their first home game against Worth County, the team gained their third victory of the season with a final score of 12-1. They brought in four runs in the first inning of the game and finished the Hornets off with five runs in the third inning and three in the fourth. The team will take on the Fitzgerald Hurricanes in their first region game of the year.
Led by senior Aaron Shipman, who is powerful in the lineup, and senior Charlie Akers, who also plays a big role in the game, the Trojans are a dominant team and likely to be state playoff bound. So far this season there have been many scouts to come watch the Trojans as they take the field, and their team shows a great amount of potential.
The Trojans are having a very successful season so far and hope to keep winning in the future.

The Brooks County boys golf team got a late start in the season due to a rain cancellation, which resulted in the match against the Thomasville Bulldogs being rescheduled for April 12.
Instead, their first match was on March 9 against Echols County High School at the Quitman Country Club. The boys team came out with the win and is hoping to keep their winning streak going at their next match against Berrien and Cook, scheduled for March 11 in Adel. They will have a fairly busy schedule for the rest of the month as well. On March 15, Cook and Berrien will be traveling to Quitman to play Brooks before facing the Tift County Blue Devils in Tifton on March 22.
The boys are really looking forward to region and are hoping to make it to state.
When watching the Brooks County soccer teams play, one may find it hard to believe that the teams are only in their fourth season. The soccer program is thriving under the direction of coaches Chip Pollard and Mandy Adams. The middle and high school teams have gotten off to a sluggish start, but they all expect an increase of wins as the Trojans and Lady Trojans get into the heart of the season.
Last year the BCHS Trojans made it into the postseason, finishing second in the region. This year, being led by senior captains Sam Hinojo and Jordan Smith, they expect to once again experience the glory of making the playoffs.
Under the leadership of captain Hannah Hodum, the Lady Trojans are greatly anticipating the upcoming region matches against Echols County and Albany. They fully expect to make it to the postseason.
The Brooks County tennis team is off to a promising start this season. Coached by Marvin Mitchell, the team has played two matches and the boys have managed to take home one victory against Mitchell County. Individual winners were Eli Cheves (8-1), Kean Moore (8-5), and Reid Miller (8-4). Sandy Luong won 8-6 against them as well. The Lady Trojans expect to see many more wins as the season continues. Seniors on the team include Kean Moore, Jessica Flemming, Cortney Brown, Lakeri Hill and Jordan Smith.
The next games are on March 16 against Early County, March 18 against Cook County and March 23 against Fitzgerald. All matches are region matches, and the Trojans have high hopes for becoming region champs.

After being named 2009 Region Champion, the Brooks County’s boys track team is ready for another successful season this year. The team was dominant during the last two meets and has high hopes of being No. 1 again this year. They remain hungry and ready to compete every week. Many of the boys from the team are planning to go to state to win their events.
The girls track team is also geared up for their next meet. Their team consists of several newcomers and seniors Clarion Macon, Khadija Jones and Shatera Fortner. Even though they have a small schedule this year, they are planning to work hard and come home victorious. The girls first track meet will be held in Turner County.

Brooks County Boys Basketball
by JaMaria Rose
The 2009-2010 season has been a rough start for Brooks County boys basketball, but the team hopes to have a turning point later in the season. The boys have been struggling to gain another victory, but they are determined and haven’t given up hope of gaining more victories within the 12 games they have left before the region play-in. The boys are not letting their losses take them out their game; they are striving to work out the kinks and to gain the chemistry needed to gain a victory. Despite the losing streak, they continue to push themselves to the top and play by the motto of “HUSTLE.”
The Trojans will have many more opportunities to have a progressive season with many more seasons to come. The season for them isn’t over just yet; they are continuing to get better as they learn to become team players. Let’s go Trojans!

Wait Your Turn: No Need
by Khadija Jones
The 2009-2010 basketball season for the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans is off to a great start. The Lady Trojans have defeated Mitchell County, Berrien, Albany, Echols County, Early County, and Cook High Schools and hold a record of 9-4. The Lady Trojans have suffered losses to Region 1 5A opponents Lowndes, Thomasville, Bainbridge, and Albany High Schools.
Each loss is a lesson learned, but the Lady Trojans have not had a deficit higher than fifteen points per game. That type of mentality is what makes them successful. They also have a versatile lineup that makes them able to match up against an opponent. No positions matter when it comes to the Lady Trojans because height advantages are usually won by other teams. It’s the heart that these young ladies display each game that makes them stronger.
The Lady Trojans and their many fans hope to go into the region contest with a great record. If they remain focused and remember to do the little things, they will be extremely successful. “Wait your turn,” is what people used to tell this team, but now there is no need for this because the Lady Trojans are ready.

Trojan Wrestling

The Trojan wrestling team is getting off to a good start in their season. The Trojans haven’t competed in Area duals for a long time, but during the winter holidays, they defeated Americus Sumter. That was their first match and they brought home a victory. Markus Childs, Justin Nunnally, Sevon Udokwere, Trevon Wright, Chris Henderson, and seniors Keith Christopher and Rashad Wade won their duals. That made their record 1-3 in dual competition.
The wrestlers’ next match is March 20 against Valdosta High School. The coaches are putting the boys to work and they are hoping to come back with a great season.

A Look at Brooks County Boys Basketball
by JaMaria Rose
The Trojans’ basketball season has officially begun as the boys took on Mitchell County with their first loss of the season. The junior varsity boys began their season on November 30 with their first win, 38-36 over the Lee County Trojans. They start their season with a record of 1-2, while the varsity starts with a record of 0-1.
The Trojans have settled into a new gym with many new players of the season who are working harder to gain a victory. The Trojan starters for the first game were Darin Edwards, Timothy Rose, Kendrick Christopher, Diontae Jones and Donte West, who came into the game with a mentality to win but the team as a whole failed to maintain that focus. The Trojans are challenging themselves to become better players. They aren’t allowing one defeat to put them down as they have one full season ahead of them. Good luck on the rest of the season, boys!

The Brooks County High Lady Trojans basketball team is off to a great start! The season began on December 5, 2009, when the Lady Trojans hosted the Mitchell County Lady Eagles. The game was filled with lots of Trojan Pride due to the Lady Trojans’ appearance in the Sweet 16 round of the state playoffs last year and resulted in a win for the Lady Trojans.
The team consists of seniors Khadija Jones, Clarion Macon and Shatera Fortner; juniors Shemari Mitchell, Kelcee Jones and Shalonda Edwards; sophomores Jasmine Mapp, Ashley Clemons, Pristina Dames, Jalesa Jones and JaMaria Rose; and freshmen Teana Frazier, Shelby Hiers, Jocelyn Parks, Kanesha Mitchell and Senovia Bryant.
The Lady Trojans return all five of their starters from last year. They also return head coach Lamar Thomas and assistant coaches Terrell Battle, Earnestine Seay and Christy Thomas.
The team has worked hard and prepared themselves for each opponent. The chemistry that these girls share is what makes them so successful. This year’s motto for the Lady Trojans is “All In.” These student-athletes are really looking forward to seeing what their season has in store for them. This year must be the year of the Lady Trojans!

Mostly made up of freshman and sophomores, the team will also include seniors Keith Christopher, Myron Mitchell and Josh Baker.

The new season of basketball has begun!! The Lady Trojans are back again and are fighting for the ring. They have been practicing and making greater steps to get motivated and pumped. The Lady Trojans are working hard and are setting themselves to be “all in.” They plan to go all the way this year and to pick up where they left off last year.
Last year the Lady Trojans lost in the second round of playoffs with a heartbreaking overtime loss by two points.
This year, they are working harder to make their way to the championship. The Lady Trojans are bringing back some old and some new players for the season. With a new school, new uniforms and a refreshed attitude, the Trojans are keeping their mind set on the big prize.
The team is full of great shooting guards, hard-working point guards, and great post players who keep each other motivated. Last year they lived by the motto “Focus”, but this year the mottos they will stick to are “All In” and “Don’t Quit.” The Lady Trojans are finding ways to make a big impact on their community and represent their school at the highest level of play possible. Let’s Go Lady Trojans!!!

After a heartbreaking loss to the Fitzgerald Hurricanes, the Brooks County Trojans got their heads in the game. The next game, they played the Cook Hornets and won 26-16. They practiced hard throughout the following week and had another win against the Albany Indians. The final score was 56-31.
Now the Trojans’ region record is 5-2 and the overall record is 8-2. This put the Trojans in the playoffs. In the first round, Trojans will travel to Putnam County. They have high hopes for moving to the second round. Coach Freeman and his assistants push the players to do their best and to do better than last year. He took the Trojans to the semifinals; the team worked hard but didn’t get to claim the championship title. They intend to practice more, play harder, and do better in the playoffs this season. All Trojan fans are expecting the state title this year. Go Trojans!

The Brooks County Trojans won 29-9 against Early County’s Bobcats on October 9, which made them 5-1 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Trojans also beat Tift County, Langston Hughes, Mitchell County, and Turner County. The Homecoming game was led by seniors Gerald Jones, Rodney Thomas, Donte West, Lawrence Virgil, Keith Christopher, and Kendrick Christopher.
Since the heartbreaking loss against Thomas County, the Trojans have been working very hard. They plan to keep their heads up and play to win the rest of the season. With the guidance of head coach Maurice Freeman and his assistants, the Trojans hope to “bring the hammer.”
Teachers, cheerleaders, students, and other fans will cheer on the victories against Berrien County, Fitzgerald, Cook, and Albany. The last year the Brooks County Trojans were State Champions was 1994 and we hope to rise again in 2009. The junior varsity squad is also doing well with a record of 4-0 and will help next season be as victorious as last season and this season. GO TROJANS!!

Lady Trojan Softball 2009
by Carrilee Hiers
The Brooks County High School softball team has made the state playoffs for the first time in eight years and the first time ever for fastpitch softball in school history. The team is under the leadership of head coach Morgan Brooks, assistant coach Chip Pollard, and assistant coach Bruce Echols. The Lady Trojans also are being led by their two seniors, Hannah Hodom and Kadijah Jones.
The team worked very hard throughout the summer and the season to get where they are. The season has brought the girls on the softball team closer together. In every game the girls played, they stepped onto the field with Trojan Pride. This pride led the softball team to a 13-13 record.
Everyone is looking toward an even better season next year − a season with stronger pitching, stronger hitting, more runs and more wins. Next season will be a true Trojan softball season. Good job, Lady Trojans! Good luck in the playoffs! Good luck next season! GO TROJANS!!!!

Fight for Every Yard
by Carrilee Hiers
In the scrimmage game against Westside Macon on August 15, the Trojans showed exactly what the year would look like by coming out strong. Not only did they outscore Westside Macon, but the Trojans defeated Tift County in their first season game. The Trojans had great motivation in the game and overcame Tift County 27-7. A week after the Tift County game, the Trojans were at back home to face Langston Hughes. The team overcame the battle and won 61-12.
This season is looking great for the Trojans. They have a passing game and a kicker that they didn’t have last year. Not only do the Trojans have a passing game but they still have the same speed that they did last year. Coach Freeman has had the boys working hard through the summer and still has them working. All the coaches and players are going into the rest of this season with their heads held high. They are playing this season with the expectations of making the playoffs again. The Trojans have said that they aren’t going to stop until they are playing for the state title. GO TROJANS!!!!

Brooks County Ready for Action
by Clarion Macon and Khadija Jones
The Brooks County Trojans football team seems to be what everyone is talking about. They have been working and training hard since spring and throughout summer. Even with a terrible loss last year, the Trojans still prepare for no failure. This year, they are being more focused and alert to make it all the way to the championship.
Head coach of the team is Maurice Freeman, and the other assistant coaches are the same as last year. This year, the victims that Brooks County will face should be looking for all of the junior starters from last year and many more. The largest threats on the teams are Keith Christopher, Kendrick Christopher, Todd Manning, Keojuan Rose, Lawrence Virgil, and Rodney Thomas. We are looking for an outstanding and awesome year, so beware!
Not only are the Trojans looking for success this year, the BCHS cheerleading squad has also been focused and ready since the end of the 2009 school year. Over the summer, the BCHS cheerleaders went to a summer camp and learned how to perfect their cheerleading skills. These young ladies are ready to show their spirit and support for their football team, school, and community.
The cheerleading squad is coached by Coach Alyce Solomon; their captain is Yasmin Seay, and the co-captain is Jatonia Kitchen. This is going to be a victorious year for the Trojans, thanks to the BCHS cheerleaders and other supporting fans. GO TROJANS GO!!

A Fresh Start for Softball
by JaMaria Rose
The BCHS Lady Trojans Softball team has officially started their season after a long summer full of hard work and many games. The Lady Trojans worked hard from the beginning of summer and have effectively improved their game. Over the summer, the Lady Trojans traveled to many different counties and participated in a Higher Ground softball camp. They have had their share of wins and losses throughout summer ball, but they have learned to keep their heads up, shake it off, and learn from their mistakes. They are focused on a much better season and hope to “go all the way” this year.
As they continue to prepare for more battles, the Lady Trojans are practicing hard and giving it their all. Even though they were defeated in their scrimmage, they aren’t going to let that stop them. The ladies continue to play and stay focused on the game to achieve their goal.
The BCHS Trojan Softball season will start with many road trips and tournaments. They hope to bring home the prize as they work harder and harder each day to be the best. The Lady Trojans are game-ready and are fighting to get to the region playoffs this year. LET’S GO LADY TROJANS!!!
